[PORTFOLIO OF EARLY VIEWS OF MEXICO CITY]. Temixtitan. 5 Planos del Siglo XVI

Mexico City: Fernando Loera - Chávez y Peniche, 1984. First Edition. Atlas folio (500 x 350 mm), loose as issued in original portfolio. 5 full-page plates on thick paper + 32 pp., including 26 in-text illustrations + 1 translucent leaf with letterpress identifications. Front cover of portfolio scuffed (from sliding in/out of pull-off case). Internally excellent. Very good. Item #3918

Edition limited to just 120 copies printed on special Arches paper from Torron, France. The plates are reproductions of maps of Mexico City, taken from rare 16th century European books, principally from the Library of Congress and John Carter Brown Library. A valuable reference source, very little known, and suitable for exhibition and study.

¶ Rare on the market: the last copy to appear at auction was sold at Morton Subastas in 2017 for MXN 18,000 = USD $980. Ours is currently the only copy being offered for sale.

From the Dorothy Sloan collection of Latin America (inscribed on title-page in pencil: "D.S. Ref.").

Price: $500.00
