Early engraved of the Pacific coast of Mexico, based on a map from Jodocus Hondius's "Atlas Minor" which itself was based on the map by Ortelius that had been derived from from Spanish sources. Depicted are the states west of Mexico City: Jalisco, Colima, Nayarit, and Michoacan. This region is here called "New Spain." There is interesting text in English below the map and on the verso. This leaf was extracted from a copy of vol. III of the 1625 edition of "Purchas His Pilgrims." It was acquired by us from the collection of Dorothy Sloan, noted dealer of Western Americana, Texana, and Latin Americana.
