Lisboa / Lisbon: Biblioteca Nacional, 1988. First Edition. 8vo. 442 pp. + errata tipped in at end. With 16 plates of which two are printed in color. Original publisher's leatherette binding. NOT ex-library! Fine. Item #3165
Impressive catalogue of 1,359 incunabula preserved in the Biblioteca Nacional, which includes not only a copy of the 42-line "Gutenberg" Bible (no. 198) but many unique editions such as the 1496 "Missale ad usum Sarum" printed in Speyer by Peter Drach (no. 624), with useful collations and copy specific information. The incunabula are mostly from "extinct" Portuguese convents, especially S. Francisco de Xabregas, and from private individuals, such as that of D. Francisco de Melo Manuel (Cabrinha). The catalogue features excellent indexes of printers and places of printing, provenance, and concordances. Edition limited to 1000 copies.
