London: Victoria and Albert Museum, 1961. Hardcover. 8vo. 33 pp. With 79 illustrations on 72 pp. Original green cloth. Very good. Item #2165
One of the few illustrated guides to the historic and artistic bindings in the V&A, and by far the most informative (apart from Weale's pioneering work of 1898 which was illustrated only with drawings). Harthan's long introduction on the development of bookbinding style is still very useful.
