We don't ordinarily buy signed Modern Firsts, but this book is so profoundly poignant, beautifully written, and heartbreaking at the same time, so unlike anything we have ever read, that in addition to securing a fine, signed copy for ourselves we had to procure one for stock, which is offered here. ¶ Background: We happened upon a "reading copy" for sale in an unlikely place, namely the Newberry Library gift shop, read the first page, read the second page, and were immediately ensorcelled. Of course we had to buy the reading copy, and read much of it on the plane ride home, finishing the book later the next day. While we were totally unprepared for what we encountered, we invite others to revel in the quiet majesty of this book.
